Lap Band Diet

The lap band surgery can help individuals feel fuller after eating. The idea behind the procedure is to limit caloric intake. When a person feels full he or she is less likely to continue eating.

However, it is more important after the procedure than ever to consider the types of foods people can consume.
Lap Band DietThe key to a successful lap band diet is to get as many nutrients as possible by eating the least amount of calories.

This means a consideration for the types of foods one should consume is a priority.

It is definitely not a good idea to consume carbohydrates and sugars that offer little nutrition.

If an individual feels fuller after eating such foods there will be little room left for the healthier ones. This can quickly lead to nutritional deficiencies.

Foods with a high fiber content should be eliminated as well, due to the possibility of them getting caught in the opening for the stomach. This means seeds and nuts or foods with small kernels should also be avoided. All carbonated beverages and alcoholic drinks should be eliminated as they can make a person feel full rather quickly.

Foods that are recommended are fruits and vegetables, cereals, meats like chicken and other types of poultry, and fish. They are easily digestible, easy to check and can be broken down into smaller bits easily. An egg each day is also recommended.

Lap Band Diet Suggestion Day One:

Breakfast

fresh fruit
One slice of whole wheat toast
cereal and low fat milk or one serving of yogurt

Yogurt or cereal may be made be desirable by adding some chopped fruits like berries, bananas, or small apple slices.

Lunch

Tuna or chicken salad with vegetables on lettuce
glass of low fat or skim milk

A whole sandwich may be too much for a person to consume in one meal so eliminating break or making smaller party shaped sandwiches can be helpful.

Dinner

3 oz. baked chicken with skin removed

steamed vegetables

Foods can be seasoned to taste but oil, butter or margarine should be limited.

To make the lap band diet work more effectively drinks should not be consumed while eating. They can make a person feel too full to continue eating and getting the desired nutrients.

It is important to stick to three meals a day only. Otherwise a person may consume too many calories which defeats the purpose of the procedure.

Meats high in fat or tougher meats like steaks should be avoided as they may be very difficult to digest. Though ground meat may be suitable it should be soft and easy to chew.

It is important to remember that the procedure will only work for an individual who is motivated in following a diet that is high in nutrient content and low in sugars and fats. A person who is following a lap band diet should also stop eating as soon as he or she begins to feel full, rather than attempting to eat everything on the plate.
